St. Petersburg, Russia, June 6, 2014 – SPB TV, one of the world's leading providers of end-to-end OTT TV, IP TV and mobile TV solutions for video content delivery to multi-screen devices has developed a smart TV application for Russia’s leading social network Vkontakte.
VKontakte users now have access to the entire social network’s media content via smart TVs. The new application provides customers with the opportunity to transmit their photos, videos and audio to large screen devices. A tuning function enables viewers to adjust the picture to their liking. VK for Smart TV expands on the number of features provided by the most popular social network in Russia. The app allows viewers to watch legal video content as they are accustomed to – on large screens.
The solution was developed within a very short time frame by SPB TV specialists in partnership with VKontakte in response to a query addressed to users – whether they needed such an application or not. This development was unique both for SPB TV and for Vkontakte, which has expanded the number of platforms supported to include TV sets for the first time.
“In developing this application we met the needs of VK's wide audience and hope that users will appreciate the new unique features that this product offers,” said SPB TV’s general director Kirill Filippov.
“We have made significant efforts to constantly improve the user experience on our platform. Cooperation with SPB TV allowed us to provide VKontakte users with new opportunities for interaction with their content,” said VKontakte COO Dmitriy Sergeev.
The application has already been certified by some smart TV producers. The product launch was held on June 2, 2014.
